Microblading, a form of permanent makeup, involves using a disposable hand tool with a fine blade to deposit pigment into the top layers of skin. This creates hyper-realistic eyebrows with hair-like strokes that gradually fade over 1-3 years.

Normal bleeding during microblading is minimal or nonexistent, as the pigment is deposited less than 1 millimeter under the skin, akin to a paper cut. Less blood is preferable, as bleeding can push out pigment and cause scabbing. Avoiding substances like aspirin, fish oil, blood thinners, alcohol, caffeine, and exercise a few days before the procedure helps minimize bleeding.
Initial healing after microblading takes 10-14 days, with the first session retention evaluated at the touch-up appointment. Skin regeneration causes pigment fade, gradually returning by week 4. On average, clients retain 75% of the initial pigment. Normal fading occurs between sessions one and two. The 6-12 week touch-up addresses any pigment loss, and clients can opt for a darker or fuller look.
While not entirely pain-free, microblading is manageable. Clients are numbed with a topical anesthetic for comfort, and additional numbing is applied as needed during the procedure. Many find the discomfort comparable to tweezing or threading.
